Coming to us from scenic Nebraska, where the bass and corn synergize to form something quite intriguing indeed: Darkwood’s Faces EP. And we’ve got a sneak peek for you today, so let’s dive in!
With an eerie vocal intro that takes no breaks before launching us into the drop, New World is a bass-heavy grinder of a tune. Before you know it, you’re plunged into a bass-heavy landscape that’s equal parts relentless and hypnotic. Channeling equal parts Chef Boyarbeatz and TRUTH – this tune will be heard in sets across the midwest this summer, I reckon.
Picking up seamlessly from New World, gonna be okay is a near seamless continuation of the energy of New World, but twisted and flipped on it’s head. Vocals will swirl around you before dropping you into a drop reminiscent of Circus Records at their full power.
At this point in the EP, it’s time to lean back, light an Arturo Fuentes Short Story, and kick your feet up. Someday is a sun-soaked womper that is meant to be heard loudly, preferably at max volume in someone else’s rented Jeep convertible, where every note is a reminder that sometimes the journey is just as sweet as the destination.
TAWK is a tune that channels Kursa energy into Balatron-force drums and bass stabs. Drop two smacks you in the face with a foghorn for the ages, with gated vocals blurring your eyes as you try to get to the phone to call for help.
Darkwood is definitely channeling inspiration from his favorite artists, yet he twists these influences into a hefty homage that also marks his own signature sound. Standout tracks New World and gonna be okay will surely be heard on stages large and small across the Midwest and beyond this summer, so make sure you tap in early and remain the tastemaker that we all know you are.
